Bid adieu to ancient Athens as we sail to Souda, jumping-off point for the Cretan city of Chania, where bustling waterfront restaurants line the promenade of a 14th-century harbor. Turkey is next: we call at the lively coastal resort of Kusadasi, the buzzy, billionaire-approved hotspot of Bodrum, and Antalya, home of Hadrian's Gate. Limassol in Cyprus offers ancient ruins and archaeological wonders, before it's over to Israel and the Holy Land, where we have two days in Haifa to explore the magnificent UNESCO World Heritage-listed Bahá'í Gardens, and pay a visit to Nazareth, rich in biblical history. Sandy shores await in Ashdod, followed by the maritime charm of Port Said, Egypt. We discover Greco-Roman architecture, 1920s-era tea rooms, and the famous Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Egypt's former capital Alexandria, before a day at sea brings us back to Piraeus. |
