Marmaris, Turkey Cruise Port Guide

The tiny port of Marmaris mountains. Many visitors use Marmaris as a starting point for trips to Caunos, an important ancient city famed for its rock tombs. In town, attractions include the statue of Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the Turkish Republic. Also interesting to see is the Menzilhane, an Ottoman version of a pony express station. It dates back to the days of Sultan Suleyman the Magnificent, who ordered the station built in 1545. Beyond that, one can simply spend a lazy day in the sun or join locals and fellow visitors in a waterfront taverna.

The ship is scheduled to dock at the Port of Marmaris. It is a 10-minute drive into the town center. Taxis are generally available.

Local shops feature a wide variety of merchandise, including leather articles, carpets, jewelry, meerschaum pipes, copper, objects carved from onyx, and hand-crafted souvenirs.

It is best to stroll along the waterfront and look for a restaurant that looks busy and popular. The best choice of restaurants can be found in the marina area; many offer outside dining and fresh seafood.

Promenade. It's fun to stroll along the palm-lined promenade that runs parallel to the waterfront. The tourist information office is Beaches. Approximately 10 minutes by taxi are good, sandy beaches, backed by green mountains. Seaside resorts here are somewhat less crowded than those at Marmaris. The clear waters of the Aegean are ideal for swimming and water sports, including scuba diving offered at Hotel Mares, four miles from Marmaris.
